Cuisine

Developed in the city of Yalova as an alternative to traditional heavy syrup desserts, Yalova Sütlüsü is a very special dessert with a geographical indication registration. It is made by baking thin baklava layers with plenty of walnuts and combining them with cold milk syrup. It is gaining nationwide fame across Türkiye.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of ready-made baklava pastry sheets
  • 250 grams melted butter
  • 2 cups ground walnuts
  • 1 liter milk
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • Grated coconut and ground pistachios for garnish

Preparation

  1. Heat milk and sugar in a pot until the sugar dissolves, then leave to cool slightly.
  2. Layer the baklava sheets in a baking tray, brushing melted butter between each sheet, and spread walnuts in the middle layer.
  3. Slice the pastry, pour the remaining butter on top, and bake at 180°C until golden brown.
  4. Pour the warm milk syrup over the hot baked dessert, let it absorb, and garnish with coconut and pistachios before serving.
