Developed in the city of Yalova as an alternative to traditional heavy syrup desserts, Yalova Sütlüsü is a very special dessert with a geographical indication registration. It is made by baking thin baklava layers with plenty of walnuts and combining them with cold milk syrup. It is gaining nationwide fame across Türkiye.
Ingredients
- 1 pack of ready-made baklava pastry sheets
- 250 grams melted butter
- 2 cups ground walnuts
- 1 liter milk
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- Grated coconut and ground pistachios for garnish
Preparation
- Heat milk and sugar in a pot until the sugar dissolves, then leave to cool slightly.
- Layer the baklava sheets in a baking tray, brushing melted butter between each sheet, and spread walnuts in the middle layer.
- Slice the pastry, pour the remaining butter on top, and bake at 180°C until golden brown.
- Pour the warm milk syrup over the hot baked dessert, let it absorb, and garnish with coconut and pistachios before serving.
