Terrain, waters and landscape
Viana Desert is an impressive sand desert stretching across the northwestern part of Boa Vista Island in Cabo Verde. Strong Trade Winds blowing from the African continent, particularly from the Sahara Desert, carried these sands across the ocean to the island, creating constantly shifting white-golden dunes.
The desert is approximately 20 kilometers long and several kilometers wide. Rare palm trees and drought-resistant shrubs interspersed among the dunes give the desert a characteristic oasis appearance. It is a fantastic location for ATV tours and sandboarding.
