Terrain, waters and landscape

Waters

Pedra de Lume is one of the most unique geological formations within Cabo Verde. Sea water seeping into the bottom of an ancient crater located below sea level has evaporated over time, creating massive natural salt pools. The salt density of these pools is comparable to the Dead Sea.

Visitors can easily float on the water surface without sinking, thanks to the high salt concentration. Used for commercial salt mining in the past, this area is today both an industrial heritage site and a popular natural wellness center.
