Waters
Ribeira Grande River shapes one of the most prominent riverbeds across Cabo Verde. Flowing rapidly during the rainy season, this river leaves its place to underground waters trickling along the riverbed during dry periods. The massive valley it creates is known for its steep basalt walls.
The valley floor is highly fertile thanks to the alluvium carried by the river. Local people maintain traditional agricultural activities through complex irrigation channels (levadas) established on the steep slopes. The region offers spectacular views for hiking and nature photography.
