Waters
The shores of Santa Maria are the most globally recognized beach tourism center in Cabo Verde. The miles-long fine sand beach merges with the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Wind conditions in the region make it a world-class destination for kitesurfing and windsurfing.
The historic wooden pier (Pontao) located at the center of the beach is a lively area where local fishermen bring and clean their fresh catch daily. It is also of great ecological importance due to its proximity to sea turtle nesting grounds.
