Identity, location and daily life

Overview

Located in the northwestern part of Türkiye, on the European side of İstanbul, Beylikdüzü is a coastal district standing out with its modern urban planning and expansive social spaces. The magnificent Gürpınar Coast, which completely covers its southern border, and the massive green corridor Yaşam Vadisi Park, are among the most essential elements shaping the geographical and social identity of the area.

Modern Urban Life and Geographical Structure

Unlike the rugged topography of İstanbul, the district is situated on the remarkably smooth Kavaklı Plateau flatness. This elevated plain slopes downwards to the south, giving way to impressive coastal formations like the Gürpınar Cape and Cliffs. Natural water bodies define the geographical borders of the district; the Büyükçekmece Lake Beylikdüzü Coast lies to the west, while the Haramidere Valley Beylikdüzu Slope forms the eastern framework.

Culture, Social Life, and Gastronomy

Beylikdüzü is widely recognized for its well-organized avenues, high ratio of green spaces, and rich cultural facilities. The Piri Reis Maritime Museum, which showcases the region's seafaring heritage, is a major cultural landmark. Along the shores, the local culinary scene is highly vibrant. Traditional dishes such as Gürpınar Coast Fish Soup and Yakuplu Style Seafood Salad are highly popular among locals and visitors alike. History

Historical Development of the Beylikdüzü Region

Beylikdüzü, located in the west of İstanbul within the borders of Türkiye, has been an important settlement and agricultural area since ancient times. Used as a resort and agricultural land during the Roman and Byzantine periods, the region maintained this character under Ottoman rule. Known as 'Gardan' and 'Kavaklı' during the Republican era, the settlement developed through agriculture and animal husbandry on the Kavaklı Plateau flatness which shapes the regional geography.

Republican Era and Modernization Process

The settled history and maritime past of the district have reached the present day through the Kavaklı Coast historical traces located along the shoreline. The surroundings of Kavaklı Stream and Yakuplu Stream, which form the main watercourses of the district, were the lifeblood of agricultural production in ancient times. The strategic importance of the region can be observed clearly on the Map with its wide coasts opening to the Sea of Marmara. Entering a rapid urbanization process after the 2000s, the district stands out today with its modern urban planning.
