Cuisine

In the past, bakers in Vendée used small pieces of dough to test the oven heat. To avoid waste, they coated it with chopped garlic and butter, inventing this beloved appetizer. Traditional bakery spots are highlighted on the Map.

Ingredients

  • 300g bread dough
  • 100g salted butter
  • 4 cloves of minced garlic
  • Black pepper
  • Finely chopped parsley

Preparation

  1. Shape the bread dough into a long, flat loaf and par-bake it until lightly colored.
  2. Mix the softened salted butter with minced garlic and black pepper to create a paste.
  3. Slice the par-baked bread horizontally and spread the garlic butter generously inside.
  4. Close the bread, slice into bite-sized pieces, and bake again until the butter melts and the bread crisps.
