Specially served during coffeehouse gatherings and home visits, Spoon Halva is one of the simplest yet most delicious examples of Kaynasli dessert culture. The secret lies in patiently roasting the flour in butter until it changes color. The halva, texturized by adding powdered sugar, is shaped with a tablespoon while still hot. Being an important part of guest hospitality rituals throughout Duzce province, this dessert holds a unique place among flour halva variants in Turkiye. Ingredients
- 250 grams of butter
- 2 glasses of flour
- 1 glass of powdered sugar
- 1 tea glass of crushed hazelnuts (optional)
Preparation
- Melt the butter in a large non-stick pot.
- Add flour to the melted butter and roast on low heat for about 30-40 minutes until the flour aroma emerges and its color turns slightly golden.
- Near the end of roasting, add hazelnuts if desired and stir for a few more minutes.
- Remove the pot from the heat; after the initial high heat passes, add powdered sugar and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon.
- While the halva is still hot, shape it by pressing into a tablespoon and arrange on a serving plate.
