History

The deep-rooted history of the Kırikkale region has hosted strategically important river crossing lines since ancient times. One of the most prominent historical heritages in the area is the historical Çeşnigir Bridge and its surrounding ruins, built over the Kızılırmak River, the longest river in Türkiye. This bridge reflects Seljuk period architecture and served as a critical point for the security of trade routes in the region.

Local architectural and religious heritage continued to develop during the Ottoman period and beyond. The Hasandede Mosque and Tomb, which is among the important spiritual centers of the region, is one of the most valuable structures dating back to the 16th century. By the Republican era, the city became the heart of the defense industry, and this industrial heritage is exhibited today within the MKE Weapon Industry Museum. You can check the Map section to explore the general location of the city.
