What makes this place unique
It is an artificial/natural pond area formed as a result of the old limestone quarries filling with underground water over time in the Kocasinan region of Bahçelievler. It occupies an important place in Istanbul geology.
Terrain, waters and landscape
The old mining sites located in the Kocasinan neighborhood hosted permanent water bodies due to the high groundwater level. These areas, exposing the deep geological layers of Bahçelievler district, have been integrated into parks through urban transformation. You can look at the Map section for detailed topography.
The stones extracted from the region were used in the construction of Istanbul walls and buildings in the past.
