Piazza del Campo is the principal public space of the historic center of Siena. Renowned worldwide for its beauty and architectural integrity, it hosts the famous Palio horse race twice a summer. The shell-shaped brick pavement is divided into nine sectors, radiating out from the mouth of the gully in front of the Palazzo Pubblico.
