Terrain, waters and landscape

Terrain

The Basibuyuk Plateau forms the geological foundation of the high rural and forested areas of the Maltepe district. Composed of mica schist and quartzite structures, this plateau is one of the ancient landmasses of İstanbul's geography.

This high flatland also affects the local climate by creating a wind corridor and is cited as an example of the Kocaeli peneplain in geographic studies of Türkiye. Check the Harita section for details.
