Heritage
The geography of Çekmeköy, which gained importance through waterways and basins throughout history, forms the western borders of the Omerli Basin. Meeting the firewood and water needs of Istanbul since the Ottoman period, this historic area retains its strategic importance today. Declared a protected site under environmental laws in Turkey, this historical ecosystem hosts remnants of historical water engineering.
Archaeologically, traces of Ottoman-era water dams and canals can be found on the surface of the region. Thanks to the preservation of the natural structure, the richness of flora and fauna has reached the present day intact. You can visit the Map area in the bookmarks for exact location details.
