Heritage
Davutpasa Barracks was a historical military camp where the Ottoman army gathered and camped before embarking on Rumelian campaigns. As the most crucial historical monument in Esenler, the barracks underwent a major masonry reconstruction during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II. It is an exceptional model of extra-muros defense architecture in Istanbul.
The complex was used for military purposes during the Republican era as well, before being transferred to the university in 1999. This transformation preserved the historical texture of the buildings while adapting them for education. Regarded as a prominent preservation project in Türkiye, its precise position can be found in the Map tab.
