Waters

Near the town of Daun, three volcanic lakes are lined up close to each other: Schalkenmehrener Maar, Weinfelder Maar, and Gemündener Maar. The geographic layout of the lakes can be inspected on the Map.

These lakes were formed when hollows created by subterranean gas explosions filled with water. Today, they are protected tourist areas offering swimming, boating, and hiking tracks.
