The Merkez (Central) district, the heart of Düzce province, is one of the greenest routes in Türkiye with its rich water resources and fertile lands. The district's territory spreads over the protected Düzce Plain and is shaped by the Asar Stream passing through it. Natural Beauties and Adventure
Within the borders of Merkez district, there are numerous conservation areas where you can experience untouched nature. Surrounded by dense forest covers, the Samandere Waterfall Natural Monument and the Aydınpınar Waterfall Nature Park, which has a rich plant diversity, are ideal spots for trekking and nature photography. Located nearby, the Aydınpınar Waterfall Nature Park Picnic Area is a popular relaxing stop for both locals and visitors. In higher altitudes, Odayeri Plateau, Güzeldere Forests, and Torkul Pond with its unique scenery showcase the district's biodiversity. The Melen River (Merkez Branch) completes the water network as the lifeblood of the geography.
History and Cultural Heritage
The historical identity of the district is represented by significant structures extending from ancient periods to the present day. Housing the archaeological treasures of the region, the Düzce Konuralp Museum sheds light on regional history. The most magnificent historical remnant stands out as the Prusias ad Hypium Ancient Theater, drawing attention with its Roman period architectural craftsmanship. The geographically indicated Düzce Meatballs play the leading role in the kitchen with their unique preparation method. Haluj, a traditional pastry brought to the local cuisine by Caucasian immigrants, and the indispensable Smoked Circassian Cheese offer authentic tastes. Additionally, the nutritious Black Cabbage Soup, widely consumed in the region, is an important part of the local culinary culture.
