History

Sassari stands as one of the most significant historical centers in Italy. The nearby Monte d'Accoddi Prehistoric Site proves that human settlement in the area dates back to the Neolithic era. The region's deep-rooted Bronze Age heritage is remarkably preserved in structures like the Nuraghe di San Pietro. During the Middle Ages, the city expanded rapidly, leading to the construction of the magnificent St. Nicholas Cathedral, which marked its status as a cultural hub.

Many artifacts from these eras are preserved and exhibited today in the National Museum G.A. Sanna (also known as the National G.A. Sanna Museum). The iconic late-Renaissance Rosello Fountain served as a crucial water source for the historical center. In the modern era, the urban layout was further enriched by the grand Piazza d'Italia and the lush historical gardens of Monserrato Park, shaping the contemporary identity of the city.
