Located in the north of Santiago Island, the former Tarrafal Camp is a historical prison museum where political dissidents from Cabo Verde and other Portuguese colonies were held.

Heritage
Tarrafal Camp was established in 1936 by the Portuguese Salazar regime, notoriously known as the 'Camp of the Slow Death'. Holding anti-colonial freedom fighters from Cabo Verde and Portugal's African territories, it represents the struggle for liberty. It is now open to the public as a solemn memorial museum detailing the history of resistance.
