Timeline, heritage and stories

Heritage

Built during the Late Byzantine period, the Damatris Palace and castle are located in the Samandira region of the Sancaktepe district. As one of the rare examples of Byzantine civil architecture in Turkiye, this structure served as a lodging hub for emperors before their Anatolian campaigns.

Today preserved as an archaeological site, the area holds great potential for Istanbul historical tourism. Visitors can examine the historical wall remnants and plan their route via the page map.
