What makes this place unique
Terrain, waters and landscape
Terrain
The Latomie are deep trenches and canyon-like vertical cliffs formed by the excavation and subsequent collapse of the limestone bedrock underlying Siracusa. The most famous is the Latomia del Paradiso, which houses deep geological fissures like the Ear of Dionysius. Thanks to the microclimate at their floor, a humid and dense green vegetation thrives inside. You can see the distribution of these vertical landforms within the city grid on the Map.
