Cha das Caldeiras Plain

Formed within a massive volcanic caldera at the foot of Pico do Fogo, Cha das Caldeiras is the most unique high plain in the Sotavento Islands region.

Cha das Caldeiras is a volcanic plain situated at approximately 1,700 meters above sea level. This flat land within the Sotavento Islands is rich in minerals despite being covered by dark lava debris and ash. You can review the Map section to view the plain's expanse.

On this plain, local residents utilize the fertility of the volcanic soil to cultivate grapes for the famous Fogo wines.
