Overview
Located in the southwest of the Karaman province, Sarıveliler is a unique settlement established in the rugged geography of the Taurus Mountains. The district hosts rich natural elements such as the high-altitude Barçın Plateau and the well-preserved Göktepe Natural Forests. Reflecting one of the most vivid examples of highland culture and mountain life in Türkiye, daily life here revolves around agriculture, livestock breeding, and traditional motifs.
Geography and Natural Life
One of the highest points in the district, Kocaş Mountain, defines the majestic silhouette of the region. The Tepebaşı Canyon offering geographic depth and the Çevlik Stream located at the center of water resources enrich the district's hydrological structure. Additionally, the Karasu Spring known for its crystal-clear waters, the agriculturally vital Daran Plain, and the Uluardı Pond complete the nature of Sarıveliler. For social life and relaxation, Karakaya Picnic Area and the Monumental Trees Area with centuries-old trunks are frequently visited.
Culture and Gastronomy
Important components of cultural heritage like the Hacı Baba Tomb and the historically architectural Gedet Historic Mosque feed the faith and history tourism of the district. The cuisine of Sarıveliler is filled with unique local tastes. Especially the local refreshing dish Sarıveliler Mixed Batırık, the winter favorite Sarıveliler Arabaşı Soup and Dough, the traditional pastry Sarıveliler Meat Bread, and the delicious Sarıveliler Shepherd's Roast form the gastronomic identity of the district.
